 India can save Rs.1,000 crore per year by having two time zone....!



•China & India are the two largest countries geographically having a single time zone.
US, UK, Canada etc. have multiple time zones which have helped their economies.

•While US is planning to switch from six to two time zones, India has been thinking of moving to two time zones.

✓who wants two time zones..?

• North Indian states have been demanding a separate time zone because the early sunrise in the northeast leads to a loss of many daylight hours by the time offices, school, etc. open.

• Moreover, the corresponding early sunset increases their consumptions of electricity.

• To take advantage of daylight, some north Indian states have already introduced early opening of school and offices.

• Before independence, India had there 3 time zones and if India now shift to 2 time zones, around 2.7 billion units of electricity will get saved every year, which means conservation of electricity worth Rs.1,000 crore per year.

✓Benefits of multiple time Zones.

• 2 time zone will help Indians work and plan things more effectively while conserving electricity which may help 24 million Indian who don't have access to electricity.

• Historically, it has been seen that countries like US, UK have more than one time zones tend to benefit economically from the same.

• Moreover, with the introduction of another time zone, the daily routine of people in the northeast region will align with sunrise & sunset and therefore, ensure maximum productivity.
